Daniel Negreanu Breaks 11-Year Drought, Wins 7th WSOP Bracelet

June 2024 will go down as one of the most emotional and historic months in recent World Series of Poker history. After an agonizing 11-year drought, Daniel "Kid Poker" Negreanu captured his seventh career WSOP gold bracelet by winning the pinnacle mixed game tournament: the $50,000 Poker Players Championship (PPC).

The $50,000 Poker Players Championship

The PPC is widely considered by touring professionals to be the most difficult and prestigious event on the WSOP calendar. Featuring a massive $50,000 buy-in, the tournament tests players across nine different poker variants, including No-Limit Hold'em, Pot-Limit Omaha, Seven Card Stud, Razz, and 2-7 Triple Draw.

Event #58 attracted a star-studded field of 89 entrants, generating a prize pool over $4.2 million. The grueling five-day marathon pushed the best players in the world to their limits.

A Historic Heads-Up Battle

At the final table, Negreanu found himself heads-up against Bryce Yockey, who had already won a bracelet earlier in the summer (Event #8: $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha). Down to the wire, Negreanu showcased his legendary hand-reading ability and mixed-game prowess, eventually securing the victory and the $1,178,703 first-place prize.

The emotion was palpable as Negreanu celebrated with his wife, Amanda, and a massive rail of supporters. The victory ended a highly publicized 11-year bracelet drought for the Hall of Famer, firmly cementing his legacy as one of the greatest mixed-game players of all time.

Mixing It Up At Home

Watching players navigate nine different variations of poker in the PPC is inspiring. While your local home game might primarily focus on No-Limit Hold'em, mixing in a round of Omaha or Seven Card Stud is a great way to challenge your friends and level the playing field.

If your group wants to start experimenting with mixed games, you'll find that the dealing mechanics can get confusing—especially in Stud or split-pot games where the dealer has to track complex board textures.

While RbPkr currently specializes in Texas Hold'em to keep your standard games moving blazingly fast, keeping the deck physical for a special round of dealer's choice lets everyone experience the chaos (and fun) of trying a new variant. When you're ready to switch back to serious, fast-paced Hold'em action, simply load up your game room and let the technology handle the shuffle.
